When I create an object and fill with PMS 3295, then find and replace that object with CMYK the new color  becomes C255,M13,Y130,K59. When I export the object into Ai, then save, open in Adobe Illustrator the color becomes C100,M5,Y51,K23     (This so happens to be the correct CMYK equivalent of PMS 3295)

I asked a friend of mine who also has Corel Draw 13 to recreate the PMS 3295 find and replace with CMYK while in Corel and he got C100,M5,Y51,K23 ( the correct CMYK equivalent of 3295) right off the bat.  I have downloaded all patches and updates and cannot fix this.

While in CorelDraw13 I created an object and assigned it the C100,M5,Y51,K23 color and it appears too light and washed out

I really need some help with this. I hope one of you out there can guide me in the right direction. Thanks in advance, J.C.

What are the Color Management settings on your copy of Corel X3 and your friend's Corel X3? (Menu->Tools->Color Management)

Hey Hugh, Thanks for responding.I will have to check with him tomorrow. Out of couriosity how does color management settings effect the automatic find and replace giving the PMS color a formula different from the PMS book equivalent like I have described above?J.C.

The solution to your problem is most likely in the Color Management settings, not where anyone would expect it to be though.

Open the CM settings window and click on the monitor icon. This will bring up a new window (attached) with a couple of not very well-known settings, among them "Show CMYK in percentages". Make sure it's enabled and you'll get the expected values from 0-100, instead of 0-255.

(If you divide the values in your example with 2.55, you get the expected values. 255/2.55=100, 13/2.55=5, and so on.)

You will find this thread: "255 Palette Problem" if you search for any of the below:

  1. cmyk percentages
  2. cmyk in 256
  3. cmyk in 255
  4. show cmyk in percentages
  5. ...

Chance of finding the answer would be greater if the title of that thread was clearer and not general as "255 Palette Problem", even CMYK is not mentioned! I thought this example is worth posting.

Is it a good practice to change titles for individual posts?

Ronnie, Thank you so much. At Hughs suggestion I uninstalled Corel and re-installed it which put it back by default to Show CMYK in percentage. But now I know how I got the problem in the first place. Perhaps I had tried to correct the color at one time and accidently unenabled it. Now I know. Thanks again. J.C.
