 Hi.

When I draw 26 fonts (A-Z alphabet) onto layer (or layers?) from CorelDRAW X4. Does it could to export 26 fonts (A-Z alphabet) as TrueType font?  Hmm

Let me know.

check here unleash.com for info on creating your own fonts in DRAW. Foster has a tutorial there

You must export each letter individually.

This is covered in my CorelDRAW X4 Unleashed book (http://www.unleash.com/coreldrawx4unleashed/) and we have a tutorial available on the subject at http://www.unleash.com/articles/makefont/index.asp

No, there's no use in using layers. You should export each glyph manually. If you are willing, contact me personally and I will send you some documents which explain just how to achieve that.

What about editing an existing font set?

Sometimes I have problem with certain chinese font where some particular characters are not available. Can I create them and add them to the existing font set?

Yes you can, provided that the necessary slots in your Unicode set are free. Be warned, though, that most probably your exported glyphs will not have the right size once inside the font. For resizing/kerning chores I advise using Fontographer, FontLab or something akin in addition to Draw.

you might be able to, but since Draw doesn't do hinting, kerning, etc, it
would probably erase whatever setting like that the existing font file
already has. IMO, it would be best to use a dedicated Font application for
the creating of the font files - the actual shapes you could create in Draw.

Michael,

I would create the "missing" characters in a new font. Then use an
application like FontLab to move those characters into the font you like.
CorelDRAW is great for creating the shapes for a font. But with no support
for hinting or kerning, it isn't very good at creating a usable font.

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess creating and adding characters to an existing font set is far more complicated than I can imagine.

Perhaps I would just stick with my current easier approach which is to create the character using segments from two other characters.
This is less time consuming given that I don't face the problem everyday.

I want to look a CorelDRAW X4 book at better The Borders in London.

Where is glyph manually in CorelDRAW X4?

There's no command name as such. Simply export each glyph (letter or symbol shape) individually to the same font file (you will have to create a name while exporting the first one) and into its proper Unicode slot. Be sure to have all characters finished before you commence the export; I find it to be more practical.

If you are using CorelDRAW, you can insert any curve into the text object. After creating the shape of the missing character, Move it Into Text.

  1. Right-click and drag the curve and drop it over the text.
  2. In the context menu, click Move Into Text.

Notes

  • This will insert the curve as a character in the text object; not in the font.
  • Now that you know this technique, try and explore it, read more about it and decide for yourself when you can reliably use it.
  • If you convert the text to curves, embedded curves or graphics will be prevented from printing or displaying.
  • You can do the above by copying the curve > edit the text object > paste.

Normally I just create the character as curve and place it on top of my paragraph and group them together.
